Hepatic Manifestations in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and Cholestatic Hepatitis as Rare Initial Presentation: A Diagnostic Challenge

1. Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multi-system autoimmune disease with a wide variety of clinical manifestations. However, hepatic dysfunction is not included in the diagnostic criteria for the disease and has not been recognized properly. Abnormal liver tests are common (60%) in some point of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) illness.

Roles and Signaling Pathways of CITED1 in Tumors: Overview and Novel Insights

1. Abstract CBP/p300 interacting trans activator with Glu/Asp‑rich car boxy‑terminal domain 1 (CITED1) is a transcription activator belongs to a member of the non-DNA-binding transcription co-regulator family. It regulates diverse transcriptions by binding to CBP/p300 co-activators through its conserved trans activating domain CR2, including TGF-β/BMP-SMAD, estrogen, Wnt-β-catenin and androgen-AR signaling pathways. CITED1 not only plays …

Acupuncture and Biliary Function Regulation: A Mini-Review

1. Abstract Biliary Dyskinesia (BD) is considered to be an important factor in the development of various biliary system diseases, and acupuncture has been shown to be effective in the treatment of BD. However, due to the lack of systematic and comprehensive review articles, the efficacy and potential mechanisms of clinical treatment for treating BD …

Review of Meso-Rex Bypass in Pediatric Management of Portal Hypertension: Case Report

1. Abstract 1.1. Introduction: Portal hypertension (PH) is defined as pressure that is higher than normal values in the portal vein. Grand parts of the alteration of PH are founded in: the portal resistance, the flow, and the hepatic disease. Prehepatic portal hypertension (PHPH), related to thrombosis and the cavernous transformation are the major causes …

Impact of Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria on Liver and Red Blood Cell

1. Abstract Malaria remains one of the greatest public health challenges worldwide, particularly in tropical and sub-tropical countries. Estimates about 212 million and 429.000 death per year worldwide. The liver and Red Blood Cell (RBC) are the organ that has clearly changed in the early stages of infection. The aim of this study was to …

Clinical Utility of Exosomal Micrornas for Colorectal Cancer

1. Abstract Exosomes are nanometer-sized membrane vesicles secreted by normal or cancer cells, which participate in intercellular communication by transporting RNAs and proteins. Recent studies have found that some differentially expressed microRNAs (miRNAs) in exosomes play key roles in the initiation and development of Colorectal Cancer (CRC) and are potential candidates for CRC detection. In …

Caroli’s Disease: A Mini-Review

1. Abstract Caroli’s disease is a rare congenital condition that is characterised by intrahepatic biliary duct dilatation without fibrosis. It is associated with an increased risk of cholelithiasis, cholangitis and cholangiocarcinoma. As such, it is an important clinical entity to be aware of. Most of the literature surrounding Caroli’s disease is limited to case reports …

Use of New Rechargeable Battery and MRI-Friendly Technologies in Sacral Neuromodulation Systems to Treat Fecal Incontinence

1. Abstract Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) is a minimally invasive therapeutic technique that has been used to effectively treat overactive bladder and bowel dysfunction. There have been, however, several obstacles with standard, non-rechargeable SNM devices such as frequent battery replacement and complications with the conditional safety for full-body Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Recently, rechargeable and MRI-friendly …

Perspectives on Minimally Invasive Approach to Resection of Colorectal Liver Metastases

Surgical resection is the most effective treatment approach in colorectal liver metastases. The im-proved survival in stage IV colorectal cancer is associated with a better diagnosis and evaluation, proper decision making, improved chemotherapy, and the adoption of parenchymal-sparing he-patic resections. Liver surgery was one of the last frontiers reached by minimally invasive surgery. Surgical techniques …
